for Energy Saving GU10 11 Watt Warm White (60 Watt Alternative)

Good alternative to halogen bulbs. I bought these energy saving bulbs as the halogen ones kept blowing for some reason - maybe they were getting too hot in the fitting. These energy saving GU10s are a good product - a similar colour light output to the halogen ones and about the same brightness as a 50w halogen, but obviously much less heat output and more efficient! A couple of things to bear in mind though: They take a couple of minutes to reach full brightness - they are VERY dim when first switched on. Also I found that it was a job to get them in the fittings because they get wider a bit closer to the pins than the halogen equivalents. So if there's no spare room between the edge of the top of a halogen bulb and the surround of the fitting, these ones may be too big! Otherwise, a good product.

1st lamp failed after a couple of hours use.....which BLT promptly replaced without question. However 2nd lamp has now failed after probably no more than 50 hours use. Does not bode well !! I appreciate that the 10000 hour life is based on an average lamp life.....but these lamps were purchased to replace one blown lamp out of 8 no that were installed nearly 5 years ago ( with a couple as spares)....the spares have now gone with the remaining 7 out of 8 lamps from the original installation still going strong. It may have been a dodgy batch...but if this is typical of lamp life then would be cheaper to use standard GU10 halogen lamps and suffer the higher electricity bills.
