Are G9 LED bulbs dimmable?
Not all G9 LED bulbs are dimmable. This means that you will need to check if they are dimmable before you purchase one. This will only need to be done if you’re planning to use it with a dimmer switch or a touch table lamp.
Dimmable G9 LED bulbs are made to to work with dimmer circuits and this combination will allow you to adjust the level of brightness that you would like the bulb to be. LED G9 bulbs require a compatible dimmer switch and driver to function correctly unlike its halogen predecessor.
If you use a non-dimmable LED bulb with a dimmer switch it will not work as it should. It may flicker, buzz, or not turn on at all.
To make sure that you are choosing a G9 LED bulb that will work your dimmer switch you will need to make sure that:
1. Bulb compatibility
You will need to make sure that the bulb is described/labelled as “dimmable.” This indicates that the bulb has been designed to handle variable voltage and function smoothly when dimmed.
2. Dimmer switch compatibility
You will need to check that your dimmer switch is compatible with the LED bulb as many older dimmer switches were designed for halogen loads meaning that it may not work well with LED G9 bulbs. LED bulbs use a much lower wattage. This means that a dimmer switch designed for halogen bulbs may have been designed to work with bulbs that operate on a higher wattage (this is also referred to as the minimum load). You can eliminate the worry of figuring out if your previous dimmer switch is compatible by purchasing a dimmer switch that had been made to work with LEDs.
When everything within the lighting circuit is compatible, dimmable G9 LEDs are a great choice that will provide smooth dimming and a consistent output of light. They are a great choice for domestic and hospitality settings where they can contribute to making a relaxing and comfortable environment.
To conclude - it is important when purchasing a G9 LED bulb to make sure that it states it is dimmable. You will then need to make sure that everything within your lighting circuitry is compatible. This will include your dimmer switch and possibly a LED driver.
