BLT Direct Launches New Shop By Zone Feature

The lighting retailer BLT Direct has launched a brand new shop by zone feature online for its lighting products.

Available on site now, the bathroom shop by zone is one in a line of initiatives either introduced or overhauled this year by the bulb specialists in order to help customers tackle the more technical or complex aspects of their job.

The first shop by zone feature to make it onto the site deals with the bathroom, often one of the more demanding areas when it comes to choosing light bulbs, fixtures and fittings. With a colour coded map design, the shop by zone tool divides the room into manageable sections. Each coloured zone shows the rating of light bulb or fitting appropriate for use in the space.

Zone 0 for example requires IP68 Submersible to 9 metres – these are the ultimate in water tight fittings and can be used in spaces such as wet rooms or saunas where there is a higher moisture present.

Zone 1 fittings are IP65 jet proof, and are marked suitable for use where there is the presence of a jet of water, such as from a shower head.

Zone 2 fittings should be IP44 Splashproof and should be fitted no closer than 0.6 metres from a source of water which may splash such as close to a bathtub or the shower enclosure.

The green zone 3 is the ‘safe’ zone, where jets of water won’t be present.

Steven Ellwood from BLT Direct said, "We know that it can be tricky to determine what type of fixture needs to be used where in the bathroom or in a room such as a sauna as water, splashes and jets can complicate matters. Our shop by zone graph makes it easier to choose, marking our clearly the kind of rating needed by space from features such as the basin, bath or shower. We hope this removes the confusion when selecting light fixtures for use in the bathroom, allowing our customers to shop confidently when buying online.";
