Can I use LED strip lights under cabinets or in wardrobes?

Yes you absolutely can. LED strip lights are an excellent choice for under cabinets, inside wardrobes, and other spaces similar to these.  They are one of the most popular lighting solutions for these applications due to their versatility, low profile, and high energy efficiency.

Under cabinet lighting is commonly used in kitchens as a means of providing task lighting for work and food preparation surfaces.  LED strips for example can offer even illumination without leaving shadows.  When they are used in wardrobes they provide clear visibility whilst giving the space a modern, high-end feel.

2. Brightness (lumens)

How bright do you need the lights to be?  You should opt for a brightness level that is appropriate for the space.  Kitchens for example will typically require a higher brightness level than wardrobes.

3. Power supply

Check what voltage the strips run out and choose the appropriate driver.  For LED strips this will likely be 12V or 24V.  You should always ensure that a driver is safely installed and accessible for maintenance.

4. Heat management

While LEDs run cool, if they overheat this can lead to them not operating as they should or failing prematurely.  Using aluminium profiles will help to dissipate heat and extend the lifespan of the LED strip.

5. Sensors and controls

You may choose to connect a motion sensor or door activated switch when you are using LEDs for wardrobe lighting as a more convenient means of operating the light and to contribute towards energy savings.
