The bulb is too long for recessed fittings that were designed for the old filament bulbs and stands proud of the rim by a noticeable amount. Unless the bulb is situated high up so you can't see the way it protrudes then it gives a good light once it has warmed up. I removed the one I bought within a day because it doesn't look pleasing when it isn't flush with the ceiling. The flat face makes it stand out worse. I won't buy another like this.
