Light bulbs can seem confusing for those who don’t work in the industry, with so many different names, types and technical information necessary to ensure that you buy the right light bulb for your needs! Here, we take a look at G9 LED bulbs, the first in a series of posts that we are creating to help to ‘shine a light’ on the many different varieties of light bulbs that are out there, and what they are used for.
What Are G9 LED Bulbs?
G9 LED bulbs can be defined by their small shape and size, known as a ‘capsule’ bulb by those in the industry. G9 bulbs were commonly found in halogen styles but now low cost, energy efficient LED lamps can act as a direct replacement.
G9 LED bulbs offer the same reliable, bright capsule light as these halogen light bulbs, but by using up to 90% less energy. What’s more, they have an average lamp life of 50,000 hours which means that you don’t need to go in and replace these small, fiddly LED lamps often compared to when using halogens, which only last for an average of 2000 hours.
Where Would I Use G9 LED Bulbs?
G9 LED bulbs have a distinctive base type so they can only be used in fittings and fixtures that support it. They are commonly used as accent lighting, or in specialist decorative lighting features such as chandelier pendant lamps or something similar. The bright, direct beam of light G9 LED bulbs emit also makes them popular for use in the bathroom, or to illuminate small areas around the home such as desks, in cupboards, in pelmets and more.
In order to offer both practical and decorative lighting, G9 LED bulbs come in a variety of wattages and colour temperatures. Dimmable light bulb options are also available to boost the mood lighting effect.
Ultimately, G9 LED bulbs are a great multi-purpose light bulb to be used throughout many home or office environments. And although they are rather specialised, once you get to know about these bulbs, you will be surprised when you begin to notice just how often they are used!
We stock a huge range of G9 LED bulbs here at BLT Direct, covering wattages ranging from 1W – 4W, covering cool white, daylight and very warm white temperatures.
