How bright should a G9 LED bulb be (lumens guide)?
Due to LEDs using a much lower wattage than halogen lamps it can sometimes be difficult to establish how bright the bulb will be if you are used to purchasing halogen G9 lamps.
It will be useful for us to differentiate the difference between wattage and lumens. Wattage is a measurement of energy consumption and lumens are a measurement of the amount of light that is produced. LEDs are far more efficient than halogen bulbs and will use fewer watts to produce the same amount of brightness.
Below is a table comparing halogen wattages to LED wattages that will be the same brightness (this is an approximate guide):
Choosing the correct brightness for your LED G9 bulb will depend on how you are looking to use it.
Colour temperature will always play a role in how a light looks and how bright it appears. Warm white (2700K–3000K) will feel softer and more relaxing. Cool white (4000K+) to Daylight (6000-6500K) will appear brighter and it is believed to help with focus for this reason. It appears brighter even when it has the same lumen level as a warm white version.
Choosing the correct brightness for your G9 LED lamp will ensure that your space is both functional and comfortable for what you need. It is key to avoiding the room being under or over lit. If you are unsure what to choose you can compare the lumens from your previous lamp to the one you are looking to buy.
