Ive always wanted some sort of HID lamp in my bedroom ceiling fitting, as I prefer the slow warm up. I purchased one of these, along with an appropriate ballast almost a year ago now. Wired it all up, and has been working perfectly since. This bulb takes about 3 minutes to reach its full brightness - it starts of as a dim pink glow, and slowly transforms into an intense cool white light. It is definetly brighter than an incandescent 100w, I would estimate it to give the light of about 300w incandescent - so very energy efficient. I reccomend this type of lamp, as external control gear is very minimal (a ballast in series with the lamp), and can be installed by an 18 year old with no hastle!
