What are PAR20, PAR30 and PAR38 LED bulbs used for?

PAR20, PAR30, and PAR38 are terms given to LED bulbs that are used for applications which require focused and directional beam of light.  “PAR” stands for Parabolic Aluminised Reflector - this refers to the bulb’s internal design which allows it to produce a controlled beam of light. These bulbs are used within residential and commercial settings as they have a wide versatility and record of great performance.

The numbers which come after “PAR” refer to the size of the bulb.  The number refers to the diameter of the bulb in eighths of an inch.  PAR20 bulbs are normally used for accent lighting which would include highlighting artwork, shelves, or other architectural features. Their smaller size makes them suitable for track lighting systems and other smaller fixtures where space is minimal and precise lighting is important.

PAR30 bulbs are slightly larger than PAR20 bulbs and they offer a balance between coverage and intensity of light. They can be found in recessed ceiling lights, retail displays, and hospitality environments.  They are a great choice for spot lighting and task lighting due to their moderately wide beam angle.

PAR38 bulbs are the largest of these three types and they are generally used for outdoor and high-intensity lighting applications. These include applications such as security lighting, garden illumination, and floodlighting. The larger size of these bulbs allows them to have a higher light output and wider beam angles which makes them suitable for covering wider areas.

PAR LED bulbs are known for their beam control.  They are available in a wide number of beam angles ranging from narrow spot beams to wide flood beams of light meaning that there is a wide range of options to suit your needs.  This makes them a great choice for lighting in environments where precise lighting is essential.

PAR LED bulbs are also known for their durability.  PAR LED bulbs are made to be weather-resistant and they will often include a shatter-resistant design to make them even more durable.  This makes them a good and safe choice for outdoor lighting.

As they are LED bulbs you can also rely on these bulbs to be highly energy efficient.  They can consume as little as 10% of the wattage used by an incandescent or halogen bulb whilst still delivering the same level of brightness.  This makes them a cost-effective solution for both domestic and business environments.
