What should I look for when purchasing a warm white dimmable LED GU10?

When you are looking to purchase a warm white dimmable LED GU10 you should look for one that will provide a smooth dimming performance; a comfortable warm white colour temperature and one that will last for a long while performing reliably during this time.  You will know that the light is a warm white as it should say this on the lamp details or it will advise that it is 2700K-3000K for its colour temperature.  A high quality dimmable LED GU10 should feel/appear the same as a halogen GU10 bulb would once connected.  This can be established by making sure they have the same amount of lumens; same beam angle and colour temperature.  It is also important to make sure that it works with your current dimmer switch.

Colour temperature

To find a warm white LED GU10 bulb you should look for one that says it is 2700K or 3000K.  A 2700K bulb will have a slightly warmer colour than one that is 3000K so if this is particularly relevant to where you are looking to install the bulb you should pay careful attention to this.  These bulbs can be used in a wide variety of environments particularly within the home or in hospitality spaces.  are typically available in colour temperatures between 2700K and 3000K.

Dimming quality

If you are looking to dim the bulb, dimming quality will be one of the most important features when looking for a LED GU10 bulb.  Low quality LED GU10 bulbs may flicker, buzz or fail to dim properly.  Choosing a premium dimmable LED GU10 bulb will help to ensure the bulb will operate smoothly when dimmed.  It is important to choose bulbs that are specifically designed for LED dimmers and compatible with trailing-edge dimmer switches.  This is the type of dimmer switch that is commonly recommended for modern LED lighting.  If you have any doubts the type of dimmer you need should be covered by the manufacturer’s instructions or on their website.

Brightness

When we are looking at LED bulbs brightness is measured in lumens rather than watts.  This is becoming the ever increasing standard way of measuring brightness for all forms of lighting technology.  A replacement for a 50W halogen GU10 should have lumens between 345 to 550.  If you want softer mood lighting you should look at lumens at the lower end of the spectrum and if you want a brighter crisp light you should look at lumens on the higher end of the scale.

Beam Angle

The beam angle of light will also affect how it appears. A narrow beam angle of 36 degrees for example will help to create a focused spotlight which works well for feature lighting, display areas, or highlighting artwork. A wider beam angle of 60 degrees or more will spread light more evenly across a room and will be better for general ceiling downlights.  Choosing the correct beam angle will help to improve both comfort and lighting efficiency.

Summary

The best dimmable warm white LED GU10 bulb will be one that offers a combination of warm, comfortable lighting that can dim reliably, has a high energy efficiency, and long lamp life.  This will help the bulbs to help you reduce electricity costs; they also require less maintenance, and provide a familiar feel of halogen lighting whilst using a lot less wattage.
